Avenue 12 Gallery is pleased to present Unexpected Landforms: Aerial Observations, a solo show of Mixed Media paintings by Kevin Keul.

Kevin Keul draws inspiration from patterns invoked by the macro perspective of satellite images and aerial photographs. His bird’s-eye views of landscapes include fracking fields, salt ponds, and the circular patterns of irrigated fields on farms. These mixed media works also reference the micro perspective of building materials including wood, steel, and concrete.

His “Salt Ponds” and “Irrigation” series of aerial landscapes create abstract compositions by combining these views of man-made marks left behind on the earth by the repeated process of building and rebuilding over time. In his “Living Landscapes” he constructs paintings using steel, acrylic and stained resin inlaid into wood, and these are often combined into series. The compelling beauty that results is at once mesmerizing and thought provoking.
