Zhulong Gallery is pleased to announce the first exhibition of 2016, I’m Lost Without Your Rhythm, with video works by Stockholm-based artist, Johanna Billing. The exhibition will include a live performance, and various videos and photographic works from the artist’s extended practice. The non-narrative-based scenes, uncanny in their cyclical nature, teeter on the romantic but are firmly grounded in their concomitant approach to the politics of place, the body, and the individual in contemporary societies as wholes.

Completely improvised, Billing’s practice incorporates real people from the various locales where they are shot. In her latest works, Billing places under the surface inescapable politics of contemporary European nations that are undergoing massive political shifts such as those in Eastern Europe, and more specifically, Romania and Croatia.  Recent works: I’m Gonna Live Anyhow Until I Die, Magical World, and Another Album all address evolving situations, the individual in relation to power structures.

In addition to the exhibition, Zhulong Gallery and Johanna Billing will host a Dallas tour stop of the work “You Don’t Love Me Yet,” a live musical performance by a curated group of Dallas-based musicians on January 31 from 1–4 PM.

I’m Lost Without Your Rhythm will open January 29 with an opening reception on Friday, January 29 from 6–9 PM. The exhibition will remain open through March 5, Tues–Sat from 10am–5pm. For more information, visit zhulonggallery.com.
