Mystery Drama and Beauty: A Solo Exhibition by Joseph Urie

I STARTED Painting in the late 60s; before going to ART COLLEGE I studied and practiced PAINTING on an independent basis. I fell in love with the RENAISSANCE MASTERS from the HIGH RENAISSANCE in FLORENCE and VENICE. I was more influenced by the work in GIORGIONE, TITIAN and TINTORETTO in their use of a much more DARKER PALETTE.

In 1972 I became interested in PRINTMAKING and I joined the GLASGOW PRINT STUDIO, where I studied LITHOGRAPHY, I worked there for 3 YEARS. And I returned to develop my PAINTING and explore ideas from my experience in working on my PRINTS. 

In 1977 I decided to study, in a more ACADEMIC Way, the more fundamental aspects  of DRAWING and PAINTING and I won a PLACE in DUNDEE art COLLEGE . I GRADUATED in 1981and I WON SEVERAL PRIZES and TRAVELLING AWARDS.

In 1981 to 1984 I won a place in the ROYAL ACADEMY SCHOOLS, LONDON and GRADUATED with a POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE in DRAWING and PAINTING.

SINCE 1984 I have been in many OPEN, GROUP and SOLO EXHIBITIONS in the UK and ABROAD.

MY WORK is also in several PUBLIC and PRIVATE COLLECTIONS in UK and ABROAD.
