Mapping in the Modern World

Lecture with Mariah Briel

Saturday, April 17, 2-3 PM | (FREE) via Zoom

In our age of digital media, we've become inundated with images and information, and have increasingly relied on maps as a way to see and interpret data. Though we often think of maps as objective reality, art historian Mariah Briel (Adjunct Professor of Art History at Los Rios Community Colleges) will briefly explore the history of maps as art, and investigate how they work as markers (both literally and symbolically) of power and identity.

This lecture is generously sponsored by Jerry DeCamp, an artist and art historian who studied with Wayne Thiebaud, Roland Peterson, Jeffrey Ruda, and Seymour Howard at UC Davis. Currently, he paints and teaches art history, painting, and drawing online, and will be offering a new class on the artists of Paris.
