LOS ANGELES, CA (October 29, 2018) – SoLA Gallery is pleased to announce the following exhibition juried by Holly Jerger, Curator of the Craft & Folk Art Museum: Interplay: Craft, Art & Design. The show challenges preconceived notions about contemporary craft, art and design, without losing the meaning of materiality and the handmade. Artists of all mediums were invited to submit up to three pieces depicting the characteristics shared (and not shared) between craft and art.

While the boundaries between craft, art and design have become blurred, Interplay: Craft, Art & Design encourages reconsideration of how we subdivide and classify genres and techniques in the art world. Jerger’s involvement in art education and public programming, and her work as an artist in various mediums, granted her the opportunity to be the juror for this exciting new show which attracted over 30 artists to participate. A selected artist from the group will be awarded a solo exhibition at SoLA Gallery in 2019.

Interplay will run in conjunction with group show Synergy: SoLA Gallery Advisory Council. A gift gallery will debut for the month as well, featuring local and international handmade works, including Sierra Leone Bags, made in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa; candles by Adesina Cooper; alebrijes, Mexican folk sculptures from Oaxaca; ceramics by Carolyn Laliberte and Lena Wolek; and clarinet key necklaces by Ben Zask.

A special thank you is owed to Grilled Fraiche of South Los Angeles and Sip and Sonder of Inglewood. These local businesses will provide appetizers and pour over coffee, respectively, during the opening reception on November 10.
