What tools does cinema offer for exploring the complex relationships between data collection, surveillance and storytelling? In this talk, artist and director Xu Bing returns to the ICA for the first time since his 1997 exhibition Installation by Xu Bing to lead a discussion on framing of different kinds and exploring our contemporary landscapes of surveillance. He also examines his approach to negotiating the dynamics between filmmaker, film and audience and between artistic creation and market consumption.

The talk will be hosted by Zach Blas, artist, filmmaker, writer, and lecturer in Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London.
