Little Keepsakes; an international online solo painting exhibition by Yeon Choi opens on November 20, 2023, and will continue for two months until January 20, 2024.
Yeon Choi's paintings feature recurring images, both domestic images and organic images. They emerge from her memories and imagination and represent femininity, identity, and lived experiences. The images of women’s domestic objects represent my feminine identity and her personal history. Natural images serve as metaphors to express her lived experiences–both painful and delightful. Lace is another dominant image in her artworks, which connects the domestic and the organic in her paintings, decorating, wrapping, or covering objects and insects. Lace represents both her femininity and her resiliency. This juxtaposition and accumulation of domestic and organic images in her work collectively represent the dualities and dialectics of her emotions and experiences—attraction and aversion, hope and despair, and delight and disgust—and her efforts to incorporate all of these in lived experiences and their visual representations.
