Noir, an international online solo printmaking exhibition by Ann Chernow, opens on February 01, 2023, and will continue through March 03, 2023.

Ann's work is based on impressions related to images of movies from the l930s and l940s. She uses actual films, studio publicity material, fan magazines and other memorabilia as points of departure and then freely reinterpret without altering the spirit of the past cinematic information. Her works create a sense of déjà vu or nostalgia without the sentimentality often associated with specific film references. Through her work, memories from films are channels, metaphor and private reverie through which she addresses the human condition.

Ann Chernow was born and brought up in New York, and experienced much of the New York art world of the 1950’s and 1960’s. Instructors Jules Olitski, Howard Conant, Hale Woodruff, and Robert Kaupelis were strong influences on her development as a professional artist. Ann earned credentials to teach art at the college level in Connecticut all the while continuing to develop her work.

Hilton Kramer, one of the world’s most respected art critics, lauded Ann Chernow's work while reviewing “Disegno,” an exhibit at the National Academy of Design in New York. Her work has also been shown at other galleries around the globe including The College of the National University of Taiwan, The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in Yangzhou, China, The Lessedra Gallery in Sophia, Bulgaria, Uptown Gallery in New York City, The Albert Merola Gallery in Provincetown, Mass., Dorothy Rodgers Fine Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and The Silvermine Guild in Connecticut. Recent Exhibitions include the Town Hall Gallery in Bucharest, Romania, The Matarasso Librairie/Galerie in Nice, France, Blue Hill Arts Center in Hudson, N.Y., Odetta Gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Westport Arts Center in Connecticut.

Other good friends who influenced her life as an artist included Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Alfonso Ossorio, Lester Johnson, Will Barnet, Gabor Peterdi, Stephen Fredericks- the founder of the New York Society of Etchers, Master Printer James Reed, and gallerists and collectors Virginia and Herbert Lust.

She currently shares her time between New York City and her studio in Westport, Connecticut. A documentary is currently being filmed about Ann’s life and her art.
