OPENING DRINKS: FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER, 6PM
EXHIBITION: 9 – 31 OCTOBER
Lines of Sight is a collaborative exhibition by Michaela Gleave and Cameron Robbins. Gleave and Robbins share an interest in connecting audiences to the unseen elements of the natural world; in physics, geology, the weather and the stars. Between them, they trace magnetic forces in the landscape, the passage of time in the stars, the transient beauty of celestial motions, and the dynamics of the weather. For their exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery, Gleave and Robbins will present individual works as well as a collaborative installation.
Utilising tricks of perception and relationships between space, matter and time, Gleave investigates the systems and structures that construct our everyday reality. In Lines of Sight, Gleave will present a selection of works that have grown from a research residency with the CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science. These works vary from a kinetic light work that refracts and reflects light, to a dot matrix printer that tracks the rotation of the Earth in real time, printing out data relating to one star per minute as they rise over the horizon.
Robbins will exhibit a new photographic series of wind and light drawings, which continue his interest in unpredictability and chaos, but also the rhythm and patterns of nature. At various sites, a wind powered device responds to weather conditions to create a skein of orbits of a small incandescent bulb. The resulting images convey an idea of site and energy.
