Hugo Galerie is proud to present The Geography of Hope, a new collection of original paintings and drawings by the Chilean artist, Federico Infante. This will be his debut solo exhibition at Hugo Galerie.

Federico Infante’s work is characterized by an incredible unity of subject and process. His characters, for he often represents human figures in vast and strange landscapes, appear fully present. At once they seem connected to nature and transported to another reality. A reality that is intriguing, diverse and colorful. In that sense, the artist manages to capture an elusive feeling, hope. In his own words:

“The essence of this collection draws on my own journey into a geography unknown to me until now. It represents our human need to connect to nature, to each other, and to those wild places within each of us, and all of us, where we hold hope for better things to come.”

Working with acrylic on canvas, he starts by painting layer upon layer, in an intuitive, unplanned manner. He then scrapes and repaints the canvas. The result is akin to a geological formation, which in turn forms the inspiration for the actual image. The artist is himself pulling from a geography of hope.
