Seminar: Curating Your Own Art Collection

Please join us at Sparks Gallery on Sunday, April 19, 2015 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm for an art collecting seminar and Q&A with three local art experts: Maria Gomez Rodriguez, Ansley Pye, and Natasha Bonilla Eckholm. Topics will include:

* How to invest in art
* What kind of artists should be chosen when starting a collection?
* What factors determine the price of the work?
* What are the legal documents required and recommended for an art purchase?
* How have professionals built up their respective collections?

DISTINGUISHED SEMINAR SPEAKERS:

Maria Gomez Rodriguez – (Maria Gomez Rodriguez, Art & Technology Law) – specializing in art and technology: contracts, intellectual property, and international law. Gomez Rodriguez also works as outside legal counsel for the San Diego Museum of Art and received her law degree from Stanford University Law School.

Ansley Pye – (Daemon Studio / Sparks Gallery) – Professional artist since 1990, and fine art curator. Pye served as Curator and Director at Pulse Gallery from 2010-2014, and, in conjunction with private art consultations, is currently a Gallery Sales Associate at Sparks Gallery.

Natasha Bonilla Eckholm (Martinez) – (Thompson & Martinez Fine Art Appraisals, Inc.) – Arts professional, appraiser and art historian of the art and photography of the United States and Latin America. Eckholm worked with institutions such as the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation the Centro Cultural de la Raza, the Smithsonian Institution and the Oceanside Museum of Art.
