Elaine Parks, Bogdan Dumitrica

Since 2012, Elaine Parks has been working with imagery of the cosmos. The evolution of this series continues to be built with a materials based approach, to explore celestial imagery. This series speaks of our connection with ancestral people through the experience of the night sky. Ancient people used patterns they saw in the cosmos to organize and determine their life, using the stars as a tool of divination. With this inspiration, Elaine make objects with a ritual quality from materials that connect to the earth. This series has oppositional aspects of heavens and earth, present and past, light and dark - illustrating the connection humanity has with the mystery and vastness of the stars.
