In her exhibition Disconnected Connections, Holly Miller’s work explores the physical connection between shape, line and color. Acrylic paint is punctuated by linear embroidery adding a subtle sculptural element to the canvas. Miller’s hand is visible in the pencil marks that frame her application of paint, subtly shifting the way we encounter the role of the artist. This exhibition features paintings that can be two parts of a whole or separate entities, creating a thread of connection and disconnection.

Artist ( Description ):

New York based painter Holly Miller pushes our preconceived understanding of what makes a painting. With thread, canvas, plastic bags, and paint Miller explores lines, texture and the physicality of drawing and painting. Inspired by everyday sights, there is a sense of familiarity to the linear monochromatic paintings that Miller executes with intuition and intention. Each line is sewn through the canvas, casting shadows and creating a sense of horizon and space. The dimensional quality of Miller’s work allows for the viewer to see and experience lines beyond the controlled palate and minimal aesthetic.
