Still Life Reconstructed

We will look at the evolution of still life throughout history and explore the cultural, historical, and symbolic significance of the genre. Students will work on developing observational painting and drawing skills including components related to composition, scale, perspective, and depth.

Beyond this, students will be encouraged to explore the development of their own personal style including paint quality, paint application, and palette preferences.

We will work on pushing the boundaries of traditional still life through a variety of exercises and projects that will incorporate ways of rethinking and re-making the still life within the context of contemporary art.

In addition, students will learn how to make their own canvas, prep the canvas, and develop palette mixing skills.

Mediums: Oil/acrylic paint, drawing materials
