Date:

Opening:
Friday, 24 August 2018 - 1:00pm to 3:00pm

Family-friendly workshop exploring east London's textile heritage through fabric and film as part of Valence House's family carnival.

This workshop takes inspiration from the invention of purple and explores colour and the heritage of fabric dying in the local textile industry. We will use outside space as a messy, colourful area to make films and animations before moving inside to create darkness and project the films.

Films will be created from mixing liquid colours in buckets and underwater film. We will also set up a washing line installation with coloured fabrics for families to move around and photograph using stop motion animation. The concept for the screening room, is to ‘digitally dye’ – using the coloured projection beam to colour swarths of white fabric.

Please note that part of this workshop will take place outside, so bring some suncream or a hat if the weather looks sunny. The workshop will be run by Betsy and Lydia, trained education artist who form the film-duo Kaleidoworks.
