Five-Day Intensive Bag Making Course, London, UK

The purpose of this course is for students to gain an insight into the professional world of handbag prototyping.

It begins with design development incuding shape making and pattern cutting techniques. This leads onto creating a full set of patterns to a chosen design which students go on to make up into a finished article. You are advised to bring along plenty of reference material for the design you are interested in making.

On the second day there will be a visit to a wholesale leather merchant. You will be guided by Selina Cheong, the course tutor, and have the opportunity to purchase from a wide range of specialist products, including leathers, metal fittings and fasteners.

Days three to five will be spent learning bag-making and construction processes.

The course fee includes a basic selection of lining fabric, magnetic clasps, buckles and closures. If you wish to use leather, you will be given the opportunity to purchase this during your visit to the leather merchant. If you want to use fabric, please bring it along. What you need to bring with you:

• Sharp fabric scissors
• Notebook and pen
• Fabric for the body of the bag, if you want to sue fabric
