Stefanie Trow has always been fascinated by the human form, using the body and face as a vehicle to transcend her thoughts and feelings on the world around her. Her present work stems from carefully selected glossy magazine cuttings. Influenced by her own compositional cut and de-voiding the image of its original context, the subject then undergoes a multi-step process of representation. Initially the paintings start out as an exact representation, then become distorted and deconstructed, presenting a final image that is bold, beautiful but unnerving, challenging the viewing perceptions of beauty.
