Jade Montserrat

A series of installations and performances marking the culmination of Jade Montserrat’s Occupation (artist residency) with ]performance s p a c e [.

Following last months performance marathon Iterations of the Rainbow Tribe, Montserrat seeks to find resolution to the questions raised through this culminating exhibition-event. Interrogating histories of gender, race, class and sexuality, Montserrat's work will include the constructing of a 'set' and multiple 'self portraits' through sophisticated layering of visual and textual languages

This multiplicity is continued in Montserrat's choice of platforms for her work and the dialogues it initiates. Performative interventions and statements of address will be broadcast sporadically throughout the day via Ustream.

Jade Montserrat's work assumes a vernacular that tears up and cuts out, magnifying symbols, repeated text and imagery that determine, question or potentially threaten aspects of her identity. The works offer a proliferation of meaning, shift existing perceptions of reality and question the nature of artwork.
