Loss of the object and bondage to it

For the month of January 2014 visual artist  will be relocating her studio to the Lubomirov – Easton gallery, in Deptford. Richardson plans to make a sculptural “drawing” in the space. Throughout Richardson’s work there is a preoccupation with how we relate to the physical world through haptic / sensory knowledge. Previous works have included I-beams made from MDF that direct or restrict movement through spaces.

Richardson has a working title for the residency, “Loss of the object and bondage to it”, and a self-imposed restriction of materials: MDF, Concrete Canvas, clay; none of the materials having a previous use history and all of them being utilitarian.

“The object is simultaneously held in the hand and inside the head, and the imagined and projected physical image is modeled by our bodies. We are inside and outside the object at the same time.” Juhani Pallasmaa
