“This body of work acts as a playground for disparate, sometimes clashing elements, to enact a resolution that straddles diplomatic and confrontational. Elements co-exist despite their formal opposition; gestural marks sit against hard edged forms and the depiction of physical objects only goes as far as description begins. These paintings start out as ‘speculative’ and turn into ‘accumulative’, like a hoarding process. Poly-stylistic and non-linear, the paintings propose an oblique movement, playful and never static.”
