A vibrant collection of paintings by a South African artist. Colour & form are the vehicles used to express the deep connection that underpins everything. Be challenged to see the world from a different perspective & bid via blind ballot.

Friends, neighbours and fellow art lovers, Colour Connect is a retrospective of London based South African artist Carien Otto.

Her work investigates the transformation of painting into an existential drama with compositions of form line and colour in the lead role. With this dance of elements each painting becomes a new entity, and not just a reflection of reality.

It’s reminiscent of the Fauvists, a group of early twentieth-century Modern artists (Derain, Matisse) whose works emphasised painterly qualities and strong colour over the representational or realistic values, shocking the art world by it’s unexpected and sometimes shocking use of colour.

In much the same way she uses colour and form as the vehicle to express her feelings and understanding of the deep connection that underpins everything.

We are all essentially made of the same atoms and are a crucial part of this universe. A tapestry that we can only see a very small stitch off, but can feel there is a big picture we are all weaving together.

The viewer will be challenged to look at objects, subjects, and the world they live in, from a different perspective.

Some works are accompanied by prose, which you can listen to while contemplating the artwork, adding another dimension to this vibrant ensemble.

The exhibition will run from Thursday the 14th of April to Sunday 17 April 5pm.

Please join Colour Connect and Carien Otto for some champagne and canapés on one of the private viewing evenings; Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6-9pm.
