Central to Selma Webers work approach is the archive. The archive serves her as material, is both a resource and an aesthetic reference and often forms the starting point for the artistic interventions of Selma Weber.
In a time where digital archives seem to be the focus of attention and concepts like data mining are promising to open up new business fields, Selma Weber is approaching the archive in a supposedly analogous way, creating her own accessible archives in the flood of existing archives that we generally have hardly any access to.
Two archives have been created for the solo exhibition in Bonn. Archive I contains objects, Archive II photographic images. These two archives form the starting point and quarry of the installative and space-related exhibition. A video documentation creates an additional associative level, balancing – in the truest sense of the word – between the two archives, thus opening up a multi-layered field of tension in references and networks for the individual data mining of the exhibition visitors.
