The Romantic Landscape

City:
Sydney, Australia

Romanticism has long been associated with the landscape. In photography, the romantic nature of the landscape often features its spirit in full bloom. It is typically very hard to categorise. At times its very nature is uncontrollable, and often unpredictable, while at other times, it possesses a quiet and sensual power that manifests its nature in stunningly beautiful vistas. Sometimes the romantic landscape may feature people or animals in the landscape, while at other times, its landscape will be desolate and bereft of life. The most notable feature of the romantic landscape photograph is that it will inspire imaginations, and stir strong feelings in its audience.

Photographers are being asked to create single images that engage their vision of the romantic nature of the landscape that surrounds them. Across the globe, countries name their seasons differently, and some also vary the starting date of their seasons. The purpose of the Romantic Landscape is to extend our understanding of what contemporary landscapes look like across our world today. For that reason, the seasons will not be named, nor will the regular convention per country be used as a starting date for entries into The Romantic Landscape.
