UK artist presents #gladheadline, a participatory campaign for the public to decide their favourite headlines to print. The competition runs from Monday, 15th January (Blue Monday) to Friday, 19th January, and invites anyone and everyone to submit their own headline, entering into a public poll for spot prizes that include limited edition artistic prints (follow the public poll at GladArtWorks.com).

Lilley, working under his signature “Glad” identity, aims to inspire his audience to be a headline writer or an artist, announcing the next great or dangerous thing. The public decides what is newsworthy, and can choose from clever wordsmithing to the poetic or politically pertinent.

Lilley’s own headline, “Pinching himself, dreamer lives wild wish,” might inspire people well beyond participation in this playful gesture of digital democracy.

Not only does Lilley’s campaign elevate everyone to the coveted status of artist, it also provokes us to incorporate a little bit of art (or curiosity, or thoughtfulness, or connection with others) into our daily lives. The campaign captures a snapshot in time and draws out new meanings and continued relevance. The headlines will all be documented and archived: a microcosm of what the public values, thinks and wants on one blue, British day.

The campaign aims to create a new community, brought together by an innate want to rewrite the information they assume as fact, or the world they live in, for a day.
