Announcing the 2011 Recipients of the Nancy Graves Grants for Visual
Artists: Karin Lanzoni and Sarah Oppenheimer

NEW YORK, NY (December 30, 2011) - The Nancy Graves Foundation announces the
selection of two artists to receive its eleventh annual Nancy Graves Grant
for Visual Artists.  Established by the artist, the Nancy Graves Grant for
Visual Artists support artists wishing  to work in a technique, medium or
discipline that is different from the one in which they are primarily
recognized.

Los Angeles based painter Karin Lanzoni seeks to cast a series of hand
formed fiberglass painted sculptures.

New York based installation artist Sarah Oppenheimer is investigating the
folding and joining of aluminum and glass sheets to create sculptures.

Nominators from different parts of the country provided the names of six
artists whose applications were reviewed by a panel of independent jurors.
Each of the artists received an award of $5,000.

Nancy Graves (1940 - 1995) was one of the leading artists of her generation.
Based in New York, her art was the subject of over 50 solo museum and
gallery exhibitions during her lifetime, and her work is in the permanent
collections of over 35 major art museums. Best known today for her daring
assembled bronze sculptures, she worked in various media, including
painting, watercolor, drawing, theater design, film, and graphics.

A not-for-profit foundation, the Nancy Graves Foundation was established by
the artist to give grants to individual artists and to maintain an archive
of her life and work and organize exhibitions of her art.
