“Reflect”, an exhibit of glass by Rose Hagan, and watercolor painting by Debbie Bakker, will be held at Gallery House, 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA (650) 326-1668, February 28th to March 25th, 2017. A reception for the artists will take place on Sunday, March 5th, 11am to 2pm. The public is invited. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-6pm, Sunday 11am-3pm, closed Monday.
The artists think deeply about how to present their vision through their chosen medium. Exploration of color and subject matter reflect their inspirations: the beauty of the natural world. Through watercolor and glass, reflective surfaces hint at a world beyond. But the viewer is an important part of the process as well. The viewer’s experience and emotions reflect off the work, creating a resonance between artist and viewer.
Debbie Bakker works in transparent watercolor, inspired by the reflection of light on nature’s colors and surfaces. Her current collection expands the exploration of light as it interacts with water, glass and metal surfaces, capturing dimensional reflections and transparencies as two-dimensional images.
Rose Hagan uses glass, ordinarily a reflective medium, in different ways to communicate feeling. Her color palette is inspired by the vibrancy of flowers, the ever-changing hues of the ocean, and the intense blues of icebergs. She manipulates glass to create functional and sculptural items that reflect her inner passion.
