Picasso Prints at Sylvester Fine Art
Wednesday 17 June marks the opening day of the latest show at Sylvester Fine Art, Picasso Prints. With Picasso oils achieving stratospheric prices at auction one might be forgiven for thinking that the work of Picasso is only for the über-rich few. Think again. Picasso was a prolific print-maker throughout his life and these wonderful works of art are eminently more affordable.
The show at Sylvester Fine Art will include works from Picasso’s extraordinary bestiary, Buffon’s Histoire Naturelle, the playful and audacious suite La Célestine, the sensuous and mysterious etchings from his Luis de Góngora Y Argote suite as well as the delightfully humorous Le Goût du Bonheur and La Comedie Humaine. In addition there will be some lovely examples of his Linogravures and his lithographs from the Dans l’Atelier portfolio.
Pablo Picasso was one of the greatest and most significant artists of the 20th century and as his auction records prove, his legacy and influence continue well beyond his lifetime.
Picasso had such a great love of printmaking that by the time he died in 1973 he had produced a substantial body of original etchings, lithographs and linocuts, which rank with the greatest prints of the 20th Century. While the ownership of an original painting is, for the majority of us, out of the question, his original prints remain very accessible.
With prices starting from as little as £350 and up to £3,000, there will undoubtedly be a Picasso at Sylvester Fine Art for everyone.
