The Brick Lane Gallery is proud to present LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URBAN. The show explores different forms of Landscape, and how our artists have received their own surroundings. From natural landscapes which are rich in organic elements, to harsh urban wastelands – these scenes are documented through various mediums and artistic methods. The show allows the viewer to experience landscape like they have never seen it before, flourishing or even decaying.

To get inspiration, one of the exhibiting artists, Ronni Ravon-Glucksam opens her mind to her surroundings. Walks in parks, travels, pictures she sees that inspire her to pick up the paintbrush and start to paint. She normally sketches the outlines on the canvas to get a feeling of how the image should look like and then starts the first layer of colour. She then adds layers of colour until the painting has the depth she feels is right for it and some shimmer to enhance light into the artscape she has drawn. Another exhibiting artist, Zephyra Vun, emphasizes the importance of hand-crafted authenticity in today’s digital age, and preserving originality and character throughout the creation process. Vun’s work exhibited at the Brick Lane Gallery reflects her personal and unconventional approach to architectural study. The series’ depicts alternative interpretations of “architecture”. The Streets portrays Vun’s imaginative strategy of layering two-dimensional maps with 3-dimensional depictions of buildings to generate intriguingly irregular perspectives. Each painting from the Formation series is a piece of architecture in and of itself, paralleling the composing of architecture with that of the painting. The oscillations expressed in each painting, between intentional and unintentional strokes, layering and adapting, and finding structure in non-structure are also those found in the processes of architectural design.

You are warmly welcome to join us for a drink with the artists at the opening night of LANDSCAPE; RURAL VS URBAN at The Brick Lane Gallery - The Annexe open from 6pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 9th November 2016.
