An exhibition of contemporary artists, placing paper art in the spotlight. Paper has long been a creative medium for the artist, a literal blank canvas; popular for writers and painters throughout history. So versatile, tactile and malleable it would seem the ideal material for the modern day artist too. In this exhibition however, the focus decidedly shifts from 'art on paper' to a more experimental approach, rethinking papers possibilities. ‘Cutting Edge’ showcases a fascinating array of different artworks each exploring the limitless potential of paper. Delicately intricate artworks are displayed; Adele Moreau’s antique books are dissected page by page to reveal a hidden narrative, while Ewan David Eason enlists whole volumes of text which are sliced through and reformed into sculptures. Paola Bazz upcycled approach involves carefully cutting and pining squares from magazines to create bold pixilated portraits and Marcus Davies recreates the natural world of birds with his dazzling collages. This beautiful yet commonplace material has become incredibly familiar in our everyday lives, yet conversely in the digital age paper is becoming more scarce and antiquated. 'Cutting Edge' aims to put the focus back onto this wonderful material to show that paper is far from obsolete.
