- About -

Cecilia de Torres, Ltd. was founded in 1993 following the success of the exhibition and catalogue "El Taller Torres-García: The School of the South and Its Legacy" (1991-1993). Initiated and co-curated by Cecilia de Torres, this show introduced the artists of El Taller (TTG), the workshop established by Joaquín Torres-García in Montevideo in 1943.
Following the success of the exhibition, which traveled to venues throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America, Cecilia de Torres opened her gallery to show the work of the artists of El Taller as well as contemporary artists who share in their tradition. Since its foundation, Cecilia de Torres, Ltd. has featured nearly fifty exhibitions of modern and contemporary artists, ranging from the historical work of Joaquín Torres-García to the manipulable, acrylic sculptures of Marta Chilindron. The gallery has also hosted the first New York solo exhibitions of León Ferrari, Gerd Leufert, and Elias Crespin. Please visit our past exhibitions as well as our current exhibition pages. In addition to her work at the gallery, Cecilia de Torres is internationally recognized as the leading authority on the artist Joaquín Torres-García and the artists associated with his workshop. Ms. de Torres has curated and contributed to numerous museum exhibitions and writes extensively on Torres-García and the artists of the TTG. She is also regularly consulted by museums, Christie's, Sotheby's and the major European and South American auction houses regarding this work. In May 2015, following nearly forty years of research, she published the online catalogue raisonné of Joaquín Torres-García, available to the public at the website www.torresgarcia.com.
