- About -

The LA River Public Art Project was founded in 2014 to address the intersection of culture, public policy, and public space. Projects to date include TEN FEET: Art Meets the River (2015) and The Course of Empire (2016). The 2018 Art Talks on the River is our first collaboration with the Friends of the LA River (FoLAR), the River’s largest and oldest advocacy organization. We are proponents of building neighborhood stability through equitable access to the potential benefits that can be realized through robust arts communities and programs along the River.
We pose the questions of how to proceed to maximize the value of the Arts on the River, how to navigate the social structures, and how to proceed where traditional arts administration plans and programs have failed to build a cohesive body of work related to the River. Working collaboratively with local and regional agencies, the LA River Public Art Project has already engaged artists, fabricators, arts organizations and curators, educators, and community members working in various geographies to discuss how non-traditional strategies can be applied to maximize an equitable arts future for the River.
