- About -

Hugo Galerie is a fine art gallery in New York City specializing in contemporary figurative painting and sculpture. The gallery represents an international roster of talented artists working in a wide variety of mediums, ranging from traditional oil on canvas to the historic encaustic technique to innovative mediums, such as pastel and watercolor and even metal powder and collage.
The artists are not only innovative in their mediums but in their genres of painting as well; the gallery represents artists working in all styles including magical realism, impressionism, photorealism and surrealism. Our artists are based across the US, France, the UK, Bulgaria, Malta, Argentina and Spain. Reco Sturgis, founder of Hugo Galerie, was previously director of Axelle Fine Arts Galerie in SoHo. Axelle, founded in 1998 by Bertrand Delacroix, established itself as a crucial part of the New York City art scene over the last twenty years. After Bertrand’s passing in 2015, Axelle permanently closed. Hugo Galerie aims to keep Bertrand’s legacy alive and continue the Axelle tradition by representing many of Axelle’s artists and seeking out new ones working in a similar aesthetic.
