Cristina Grajales founded Cristina Grajales, Inc. in 2001 to address the ever expanding needs of her clients. In addition to numerous residential projects worldwide, Grajales has several commercial projects underway in New York City including the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea, the fashion and home collection showroom Seedhouse, the sales office and suites in a new residential development for Tamarkin and Co.
at 91st and Madison, as well as the lobby space of Philip Johnson’s new building on 91st and Lexington where she has facilitated an important artistic commission. Education is an inherent aspect of Grajales’s mission. She does not believe in simply educating her clients about specific designers, but aims to enlighten them towards all disciplines related to furniture design. In 2001 Grajales launched a ground-breaking lecture series on Design Legends at the renowned 92nd Street Y. Among those invited to participate were such esteemed figures as the architect and lighting historian Paul Morantz, textile designer Mary Bright, ceramicists Eva Zeisel and Jonathan Adler as well as the furniture designers Vladimir Kagan and Chris Lehrecke. Among Grajales’s most notable curatorial contributions was Journey to Nouristan, a compelling exhibition of architectural photographs taken in Afghanistan in the 1960s that culminated in an important architectural symposium discussing the rebuilding of this war-torn nation. In October of 2002, Grajales was invited to participate in the prestigious Sommet du luxe et de la creation where she lectured on “The Merging Trends in the Design Field”. Grajales has also been working diligently in the production and publication of several design books featuring the works of George Nakashima and Eva Zeisel.
