Huangshan and Zhangjiajie, China: Photographs of Land and Culture is an exhibit featuring a cross-section of documentary and fine art photography of the land and people of Mainland China. This photo exhibit is closing September 26, 2014 with a public closing reception and gallery talk from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm. There will be show catalogs for sale at the event and all are welcome.

Huangshan and Zhangjiajie, China explores the view of 16 photographers who spent two weeks in rural China on two photography trips led by Kate Jordahl, Professor of Photography at Foothill College, Geir Jordahl, Director at PhotoCentral, Hayward, CA and Oliver Klink, professional photographer at IncredibleTravelPhotos.

The two regions photographed were chosen for their unique landscape and their preservation of ancient culture and tradition. Even though China is going through rapid changes and building mega cities, there are still pockets of undiscovered beauty seldom visited by Westerners. Both regions feature UNESCO World Heritage sites, places recognized for their international historical and cultural importance.

In each regions, the 16 photographers experienced traditional events - such as a Miao minority culture wedding and other rural agricultural customs. During their visit, they met local residents and  observed young Chinese artists learning their craft, families going through their daily routines and the synergy between the elderly and the young generation. The photographs reflect moments and spaces the photographers believe is vital to Chinese life and the traditions that are both emerging and vanishing.

The exhibit is located in the KCI Gallery, on the lower level of the Krause Center for Innovation, Building 4000, at Foothill College 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022. Please park in Lot 4. Parking is $3.00 (quarters or $1 bills only). Disabled parking in Lot 4-B. KCI hours of operation are Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 7:30pm.
