Artist ( Description ):

Judy Tuwaletstiwa's work is about healing through a diversity of mediums, storytelling, and language. She engages in a practice that is rooted in deep reflection and the lives lived outside of our own experience. Diving into the details of meaning and origins, Tuwaletstiwa’s work is about stories, considering how language, both visual and literary, build understanding and ultimately a road to healing, dealing with trauma, and finding beauty. Tuwaletstiwa’s medium centers around transition; clay becomes ceramic, sand transforms to glass, and objects come alive as she builds tools to deal with the sorrows and joys thrown on the path of life. Tuwaletstiwa was born in Los Angeles, CA, received her B.A. in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley and M.A.T. in English Literature from Harvard University. Now located in Galisteo, NM, she has participated in residencies all across the United States and is in collections at the Corning Museum of Glass, New York, NY; Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, American Literature Collection at Yale university. She has shown at the Center for Contemporary Arts Santa Fe in Sante Fe, NM; Bullseye Projects in Portland, OR; William Siegal Gallery in Santa Fe, NM; and New Mexico Museum of Art, Santa Fe, NM.
