The Pacific Art League of Palo Alto invites all printmakers to submit work for a regional competition and juried print exhibition to be held from November 1st – 28th, 2013.

Eligibility: The Pacific Art League will consider all forms of printmaking media, including monoprint, monotype, etching, silkscreen, collography, woodcut & linoleum, lithography, mixed print media, and 3D prints. PAL will not accept photography, Giclee, or offset reproductions.

 

Exhibition Dates: November 1st – 28th, 2013

Opening Reception: November 1st, 2013

Jurors: Paula Kirkeby & Kathryn Kain

Awards: 1st: $250, 2nd: $125, 3rd: $75; 3 Honorable Mentions

 

Exhibition Guidelines:

  • --Open to all artists in the Pacific region 
  • --All work must be original and not previously exhibited at Pacific Art League. 
  • --All work must be ready to hang with proper hanging device. 
  • --All work must be for sale. Members receive 70% on sales; and non-members receive 60%. 
  • --Size of work is limited to 40” (with frame) on longest side. 
  • --All work must be labeled on the front and back with artist’s name, title, medium, size and price.

 

Submission Process: TIFF, BMP, JPG, or PNG images of your artwork must be submitted electronically at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. All images will be resized to 1920 pixels (on the longest side), so, please no images less than 800 pixels long. A quick tutorial on how to submit is available on the How OJS Works page. Directions on how to photograph your work and properly size images can be found on the Help page. Payment: After you have entered your work, continue to checkout to pay for your entries and receive your receipt. Payment through PayPal and credit cards are accepted.

 

Submission fee: Members: $25 for 2 entries, $5 for each additional entry; Non-members: $35 for 2 entries, $10 for each additional entry (Non-refundable) 

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: October 10th

 

Notification of selections: October 16th, 2013; Artists will be notified by email and/or telephone.

 

Hand-delivery of accepted work: Friday & Saturday, October 25th – 26th, 2013, 10AM – 4PM; All work must be hand-delivered to PAL. No shipped artwork will be accepted.

 

Pick-up unsold work: Friday & Saturday, November 29th – 30th, 2013, 10AM – 4PM

 

ABOUT THE JURORS: Paula Kirkeby is founder and owner of Smith Andersen Editions (Palo Alto, CA). In 1984, she founded the small arts press, preceded by Galerie Smith Andersen (1969) and 3EP (1978), to encourage experimentation with monoprint and monotype. Producing work by renowned artists such as Nathan Oliveira and David Gilhooly, Smith Andersen Editions has built a reputation as a major monotype center in the United States.

Kathryn Kain is a printmaking artist, an art instructor and a master printer. She earned her MFA in printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute and studied under master printmakers Kenjilo Nanao and Misch Kohn. She currently serves as Master Printer at Smith Andersen Editions and has worked at the Ernest DeSoto Workshop (San Francisco, CA). She has taught at Bluffton College, the San Francisco Art Institute, Dominican University and Stanford University. Her award-winning drawings and collage monotypes have been shown across the United States and Mexico, including the Toledo Museum of Art, De-Saisset Museum, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Oakland Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, ARTSpace, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

October 10th: SUBMISSION DEADLINE: All entries with payment must be submitted electronically by 11:59PM. Any entries without payment will be withdrawn from juror’s consideration.

October 16th: Notification of selections

October 25th 26th: Accepted artwork due, 10AM – 4PM 

November 1st: Opening Reception, 5:30 – 8PM

November 29th 30th: Pick-up artwork, 10AM – 4PM
