Jack Fischer Gallery is pleased to present the one and only Camille Holvoet! a solo exhibition by Camille Holvoet. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, October 5, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Minnesota Street Project – gallery 211. The show will run through October 29, 2019.

This exhibition gathers works by the artist made throughout recent years revealing the depth and breadth of her interests. We are honoring as well as celebrating the work she has done since joining Creativity Explored, a San Francisco based studio for artists with developmental disabilities, in 2001.

In her artwork, Camille turns to themes that allude to her memories, anxieties, and desires. These are revealed in recurring images such as Ferris wheels, merry-go-rounds, cakes, and cupcakes. Her concerns are our own and in her way of addressing them they are suddenly wonderful and luminous!

Holvoet’s use of bright colors depicting scrumptious cakes portray our forbidden desires and insatiable appetites. Her use of color and form seduces as it reveals the ease with which advertisers entice us with the baubles of success. This is the double-edged sword of what we want versus what we need. The unfortunate irony is the toll it takes on our psyches which Holvoet reveals so clearly and urgently in her work under the guise of sweetness.

About Creativity Explored:

For the past 35 years, Creativity Explored has given artists with developmental disabilities the means to create and share their work with the community, celebrating the power to change lives. Located in the vibrant cultural and dining corridor that transverses San Francisco’s Mission District, Creativity Explored provides a supportive studio environment, including individualized instruction from mentoring artists, quality supplies, and professional opportunities to exhibit and sell their art. The organization establishes these artists’ work as an emerging and increasingly important contribution to the contemporary art world. In 2018 the organization was recognized as a San Francisco Legacy Business and was recently included in the 2019 YBCA 100.
