ETCHYNPÜFE: Group Exhibition curated and printed by What Editions

The Foundation Gallery is excited to host ETCHYNPÜFE, a group show curated and printed by local print studio What Editions in collaboration with local artists Andrew Schrock, Hugo Girl, Sarrah Danziger, and Spring Sandstorm. The show will be up from April 10 – May 31, 2015. An opening reception will be held Friday, April 10 from 6 – 10pm. 25% of proceeds from the show, as well as the gallery shop, will be donated to local non-profit the New Orleans Community Print Shop Youth Program.

What Editions first approached Andrew Schrock, after having seen his work featured in the Airlift Music Box, and 1MISQFT. They wanted to produce a group show of all local artists, and Andrew helped introduce them to his friends and collaborators--Spring Sandstorm, Sarrah Danziger and Hugo Girl.  The interests of these artists range from photography, to performance, to welding, to graffiti art--all of which will be exhibited in this show.  Their challenge: find a way to curate all these eclectic mediums to a cohesive show.  When discussing this they were inspired by Andrew's inflatable hydroform sculptures--they decided to use the copper etching plates to create their own inflatable sculpture.  This is a nod to the traditional printmaking practice of destroying etching plates once an edition is finished, to insure a limited edition. Each artists etching plates will be welded together to form a sculpture which will be inflated during the opening. The final product will be inflated macro body images, pop icons, and one of a kind illustrations.

The accompanying Arts and Activism Event, the gallery’s third, will be held during the Third Thursday Low Road Art Walk, May 14th at 7pm. The event will include a curatorial talk with Cora Lautze and Julian Wellisz of What Editions, a presentation from Nola Community Print Shop, and a hydro form demonstration from exhibiting artist Andrew Schrock.

The Heymann Foundation and The Foundation Gallery, hope to continue in their effort to support youth engagement through the arts by partnering with the NOLA Community Print Shop’s Youth Program, a local non-profit based in the upper-ninth ward where students can work on art projects, use the Silkscreen and Darkroom Facilities, and go on Field Trips.
