Main Gallery:  Sky Line, a group sculpture exhibition

Curated by Ben Zask

Skyline is an installation of three-dimensional artwork by artists who have made sculpture to fit along the perimeter of the main gallery of the LOFT on a 7” deep shelf.  The curator, Ben Zask, is looking for the emerging patterns and silhouettes in the collection of objects as the line of sculpture wraps around the entire gallery space at eye level.  His interest is in creating an installation where the whole gallery becomes unified as a Skyline.   Zask is focused on sustainable practice in sculpture, thus the majority of sculpture will be constructed of found materials and mixed media.

Project Space:  Michael Freitas Wood, “Connections” Michael Freitas Wood continues evolving his grid series of plaster and pigments on flexible fiberglass format.  Layers upon layer of color and pattern, this series of works seem to reflect the visual complexity of our contemporary communication systems.

SBC Studio:  Tracey Weiss,  PET

Tracey Weiss uses PET plastic (plastic water and soda bottles) that she has found or collected, saving them from the landfill or obligatory “recycling”. She not only using these found materials as a conscious effort to be environmentally responsible, but also as a commentary on the plastic itself. While our consumer production has moved more and more towards plastic over the last few decades, we are finding ourselves surrounded by a plastic environment of our own creation.
