Vertical Gallery presents A short and pleasurable journey
A group exhibition curated by The Jaunt, September 5 – 26, 2015
Experiencing new surroundings and stepping out of the comfort zone is often quoted as the main source of inspiration for artists. Immersing in a new culture, meeting new people, and being in a new surrounding triggers the imagination and delivers new insights. At its essence The Jaunt is a project that wants to create opportunities and possibilities for artists, and thereby becoming a catalyst for progress and new insights.
The Jaunt sends artists on trips all over the world to become inspired. For each trip an artist travels to a completely new destination. Once arrived, the artist will become inspired by all of the local impressions. From beautiful nature to neoclassical architecture, overcrowded tourist sites or whatever else falls in their way. Each trip is unique, because each destination and artist is different. After the trip, the inspiration is processed into a limited edition screen print.
In this group exhibition we have collected the artists who have participated in the project, and invited them to share more of their journey. Extending outside of the limited edition screen print made after their trip, but digging deeper and processing their inspiration into original pieces of art.
Alongside the exhibition is the official USA book launch of The Jaunt's first publication, in which the first ten trips of the project have been collected. A 200-page book full of photos and stories of travels all over the world.
Participating artists: Collin van der Sluijs, Mike Perry, Cody Hudson, Daniel Frost, Hedof, Jordy van den Nieuwendijk, Amanda Marie, David Shillinglaw, Andrea Wan, Niels 'Shoe' Meulman, and more.
