Matthew Rachman Gallery is pleased to announce it’s grand opening, and the first exhibition of it’s 2015 line up: Paintings by Joe Reich and Chris Trejo, featuring new works on wood by two emerging Chicago artists.

The paintings of both Joe Reich and Chris Trejo showcase rich depths of texture, leaving behind entrancing visual surveys of the paintings’ evolution. The exhibition will run February 20 - April 5, 2015, with an opening reception Friday, February 20th, at which both artists will be in attendance.

Artist ( Description ):

About Joe Reich: Chicago based artist Joe Reich’s large-format paintings are a visual exploration of urban landscape, juxtaposing photographic elements against the tactile application of various dyes, pigments, resins, glazes, acrylics and oil paints. The photographic imagery is obscured by extensive layering of brush strokes and varying degrees of effacement, resulting in artwork that is heavily layered, yet singular in content.

About Chris Trejo: “My current work is a culmination of the varying styles, techniques, and media that I have experimented with over the years. We live in texture, always; in sight, sound, color, and feeling. As an artist I have always been drawn towards the tactile nature of things that are perpetually surrounding us--the everyday textures that we often ignore while focusing on the visual or audial sensory experience. In this series of paintings, I have worked with oil on reclaimed wood to engage both myself and the viewer in the tactile side of our senses by using color and motion, and invoking sound. Just as we as people often slowly reveal ourselves to one another so is our relationship with these found panels.” - C.Trejo
