International Artist, Patricio Moreno Toro, Inaugurates the Grand Opening of V. Vorres Gallery in San Francisco, with An Exhibition of New Works Never Before Shown in the United States.
Toro’s new show, Vorágines, features a maelstrom of his trademark abstract canvases, large prints, and small mixed media compositions. His latest work includes fantastical wall-sized canvases in black and white. “The absence of color can evoke powerful images that challenge the viewer to see form and content without distraction” says Toro.
Peter Selz, has said about Toro: “His work is informed by the biomorphic fantasy and automatic procedures by his compatriot Matta, by the non-traditional working processes and use of materials by Andre Masson, de Kooning’s great visual energy and the powerful shadows of Caravaggio’s paintings or the turmoil in Turner’s paintings. …”
Patricio Moreno Toro was born in 1943 in Santiago, Chile. With an art career spanning more than fifty years, Toro is hailed as one of the most prominent Latino artists living in the United States. He is recognized for his intense large-scale abstract expressionist paintings. His work is represented in multiple international museums including: Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes: Santiago, Chile; Museum of Modern Art: Managua, Nicaragua; Museum of Contemporary Art and Design: San Jose, Costa Rica: Orebros Lans Museum: Orebro, Sweden; Oxford University, Oxford, U.K.; Smithsonian Institution: Washington, D.C.; Instituto Chileno Norteamericano de Cultura: Santiago, Chile. He has exhibited in galleries throughout Europe, North, Central and South America, South Africa, and Israel.
