J. Mane Gallery is pleased to present the Monochrome online juried art exhibition.

Monochrome means one color, so in relation to art, a monochrome artwork is one that includes only one color.

Throughout the centuries artists used different shades of brown or black to create monochrome pictures on paper. The medium they would use would simply be more or less diluted to achieve the required shades.  The play of light and dark enabled the artist to define form and create a picture.

For this competition, artists were encouraged to share their artistic vision and interpretation of any subject, but using only one color.  The artwork varied from realism to surrealism to abstraction. All artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best inspired work. There were over 150 entries from the United States, Canada and Taiwan.

Each of our monthly themed exhibitions, awards for First, Second and Third Place.  The First Place winner for the Monochrome show is Arthi Sundar for her mixed-media, Self-Portrait I. Arthi’s subject is beautifully executed with just one color and her command of the media is what set her work apart. Arthi is also the Featured Artist for the duration of the show.

Taking Second Place is Jeremiah Gilbert for his photograph Jabreen Castle, Oman.   And, Third Place goes to Maureen Bennett for her graphite piece, Charlotte.  Both artists captured depth and interest in their work, although only using one color.

Ten Honorable Mention awards were given as well. Honorable Mention awards go to Sarah Adelman for her watercolor, Woman In Blue 3, Samantha Bias for her photo transfer, Into The Void, Lindsey Grant for her digital photo, Hogochrome 4, Elizabeth Kaney for her Sumi-e ink on paper, Awake, Izzy Kapetanovic for his photograph, Ruffles & Ridges, Minnie Lucas for her photograph, Mule, Melissa Maddox for her photograph, Eclipse, Kristopher Schoenleber for his photograph, Lock Up, Hui Tian for his acrylic and pencil on paper, Friedrich Hayek and Jay Waters for his photograph, Surfer Memorial, North Shore, Oahu, HI.
