J. Mane Gallery is pleased to present its Monochrome International Online Juried Art Exhibition.

Monochrome means one color, so in relation to art, a monochrome artwork is one that includes only one color.

Throughout the centuries artists used different shades of brown or black to create monochrome pictures on paper. The medium they would use would simply be more or less diluted to achieve the required shades.  The play of light and dark enabled the artist to define form and create a picture.

For this competition, artists were encouraged to share their artistic vision using only one color.  The theme could have been any subject and the artwork submitted varied from realism to surrealism to abstraction, and all media were accepted, including 3-D. All artists over the age of 18, regardless of location or experience, were encouraged to submit their best inspired work.

Each of our themed exhibitions, awards for First, Second and Third Place.  The First Place winner for the Monochrome show is Arien Reed for The Unlicensing 3-Androgynous. The simplicity used with the medium, only a few swashes of one color to tell the story of the image is what set Arien’s work apart. Arien is also the Featured Artist during the show.

Taking Second Place is Sandra Belitza-Vazquez for for her photograph, Philodendron Variations. Sandra’s approach to the subject, and the mood she created with the medium make this a stand out image. And, Third Place goes to Elizabeth Kayl for her photo, A Light Snow.  Elizabeth’s effective use of composition and technique with the medium create the overall mood and visual impact of the image.

Honorable Mention awards were given as well. Honorable Mention awards go to Mahmoud Elkouriny for his ink on paper, Four Seasons, Marcus Fields for his photograph, Wishes, Patricia Gauss for her colored pencil, Phantom Menace, Jeremiah Gilbert for his photograph, Perspective, Lindsay Morrison Grant for her ink on canvas, Bird, Jay Johansen for his acrylic, Stallion II, Michael Lip for his watercolor, Caring Hands 2 and Alexis Oliver for her charcoal, Prize Possessions. Please visit the Monthly Winners Page to learn more about each of these award winning artists and to contact them directly about their work.
