Exhibit by Aberson is pleased to present a selection of new work by KOLLABS.

KOLLABS is collaboration between Miami-based artist, Luis Garcia-Nerey and Atlanta-based artist, Anke Schofield.

“Animals are more like us than we think they are,” says Schofield of the artists’ fresh perspective of our natural world counterparts. Exploring the mysteries of ecology and investigating the possibilities within the animal realm are central subjects for this artistic duo.

Garcia-Nerey and Schofield were both interested in making art from a very young age. While living in a warehouse space in Atlanta, they became fast friends and collaborated in a two-person show. Now, twenty-years later and over 600 miles apart, they continue to push each other and combine their talents to make this body of work together as KOLLABS.

Pre-planning the pieces and then traveling between Miami and Atlanta at least once a month, the artists’ meticulous technique and attention-to-detail is evident within their layered paintings. Their separate travel experiences, personal work and experimentation with an array of media inspire Garcia-Nerey and Schofield to produce work of impeccable craftsmanship and imagination.

“We have been very interested in the ideas of travel and bringing nature's animals into modern day settings for most of our recent work.” explains Garcia-Nerey. He and Schofield invite the viewer to think differently about the animal world through their playful and energetic mixed-media pieces.
