Santa Monica Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with Art at the Airport, is proud to announce the opening of WHIPLASH: Art In The Ever-Changing Now, a groundbreaking exhibition that explores the profound and dynamic shifts shaping our world today. The exhibition opening event will take place on Saturday, October 26th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Propeller Gallery, located at the Santa Monica Airport, 3026 Airport Ave, Santa Monica, CA 90405.

Curated by artists and social activators Rebecca Youssef, Alexandra Dillon, and April Banks, this exhibition offers a reflective exploration of our times, showcasing the ways contemporary artists interpret and respond to the rapid transformations that affect societal norms, cultural identities, environmental crises, and political divisions.

Through various media, the participating artists bring unique perspectives to the exhibition, contributing to the collective dialog and resulting in personal transformations. Their works explore themes of identity, social justice, technological advancements, consumerism, environmental concerns, and the nature of reality itself. By questioning the status quo, these contemporary artists use their art to critique and reflect upon the complexities of our evolving world.

The participating artists include Rebecca Youssef, Alexandra Dillon, Crystal Michaelson, Daniela Schweitzer, Gregg Chadwick, Lola del Fresno, Elham Sagherchi, Joan Wulf, Sheila Karbassian, M Susan Broussard, Melinda Smith Altshuler, Sabine Pearlman, Claudia Concha Perea, Pamela Simon-Jensen, Gwen Samuels, Susie McKay Krieser, Wendy Edlen, Julie Weiss, Deborah Lynn Irmas, Margaret Oakley, Doni Silver Simons, John Jean-Pierre Goetz, Barbara Carrasco, Mobina Nouri, Jody Zellen, Leila Youssefi, Annette Miae Kim, John Geary and Craig Deman.

WHIPLASH aims to raise awareness of social issues, sparking critical dialogue and giving voice to marginalized groups. It promotes social change by challenging dominant narratives, encouraging empathy, understanding, and fostering innovation in artistic expression. The exhibition acts as a catalyst for societal progress, prompting reflection and potentially inspiring action on important issues. WHIPLASH is not just an art exhibition; it is a reflective exploration of our times, offering audiences an opportunity to engage with the pressing issues of our day through creative expression.

The exhibition is made possible by the support of the City of Santa Monica Department of Cultural Affairs.
