“What Remains” series by photography artist Sonia Melnikova-Raich will be on view as a part of the exhibition at Ruth’s Table Gallery that commemorates the second anniversary of Sonoma Fires.
In October 2017, a series of 250 wildfires ripped across Northern California scorching at least 245,000 acres and destroying over 10,000 structures in what was, at the time, the worst fire disaster in our state’s history. As Sonoma rebuilds, the comeback is imminent. But the tragedy holds a strong message about the future and the need to build a stronger, more robust foundation, based on new expectations and promise. What are the lessons that we draw from the horrendous devastation? What does it teach us about resilience and the triumph of the human spirit? Has the time come to make peace with nature? What can we expect in a Comeback? Through photography, painting, sound, and spoken word, this exhibition invites us to reflect on resilience, rebuilding, healing, and hope.

Sonia Melnikova-Raich is an award-winning photography artist. She was trained and worked as an architect and artist in Moscow before moving to San Francisco in 1987. Later in life she discovered photography, but her schooling in architecture and design remain vividly present in her works. She exhibits locally and nationally, had several solo shows, and has been among the winners in many juried art and photography competitions. Melnikova-Raich’s works are hold in public and private collections and have been featured in professional photography journals and magazines.
