Gallery House invites you to step “Through the Looking Glass” to see our new show featuring photographer Azita Gandjei and ceramic artist Sheila Miller. Their art of the fanciful and whimsical will be on view at Gallery House, 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, CA from May 28th through the June 22nd, 2019. A reception for the artists will take place on Saturday, June 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Free to the public and a great time to share your imagination with the artists.

“Through the Looking Glass” is a visual narrative of photographs and ceramic pieces, in which Azita Gandjei and Sheila Miller reveal the magic, beauty, and emotion of worlds on the “other side”; scenes between dream and wakening that unfold in our subconscious.

Azita Gandjei uses her camera to show the interplay between the sensual and the soul. Influenced by early cinema as well as by Man Ray, Imogen Cunningham and Diego Rivera, Gandjei finds beauty in illuminations of the hidden within the recognizable.  She uses various lighting to create images that tell a story.

Sheila Miller creates pottery that is happy; beautiful objects with meaning that weave into our daily lives through their use. Her vases decorate our living spaces with character and whimsy. The unique charm of her mugs turn our morning coffee or tea drinking ritual into a celebration of the new day. When not in use, her pig bowl adorns our shelf, and her tiny plates hold our treasures and create smiling accents in our space.

Gallery House hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-3pm. Closed Mondays. 320 S. California Ave., Palo Alto, Ca.  (650-326-1668)  (Enter through Printer’s Café)

AZITA GANDJEI uses her camera to show the interplay between the sensual and the soul. Influenced by early cinema as well as by Man Ray, Imogen Cunningham and Diego Rivera, Azita finds beauty in illuminations of the hidden within the recognizable.  She uses various lighting to create images that tell a story–when her subjects reveal their unique qualities, displayed in movement, color, lines, and textures. Azita wants her work to both fascinate and unsettle the viewer.   Website: azitagandjei.com        Instagram: @sefidnsia

SHEILA MILLER makes pottery that is happy; beautiful objects with meaning that weave into our daily lives through use. Vases decorate our living spaces with character and whimsy. Mugs celebrate our morning coffee or tea drinking ritual with unique charm; a pig bowl adorns a shelf when not in use; a tiny plate holds our treasures and decorates our space. I find utilitarian pottery the best method to express my ideas. I like to decorate these functional pieces with whimsical patterns and faces. I want my pieces to be a reflection of our reality, our fantasy and ourselves.  Website:  www.sheilamillerpottery.com       Instagram: @sheilamillerpottery
