SUMMER GROUP SHOW III

Onishi Project is pleased to announce our third of a series of summer group shows for this year from July 9th to 20th with the opening reception on July 12th from 5:30 – 7:30pm. This group features six international artists: Garcia Agustin, Joe Strickland, Kavi Srinivasaragavan, Magda Bowen, Toshiko Kitano Groner and Charlotte Jonasson Falk.
Garcia Augustin born in Oaxaca in 1977, attended the Faculty of Architecture “May 5“, and plastic arts workshops of the School of Fine Arts of the Autonomous University “Benito Juarez” of Oaxaca. In 1999, he made a series of drawings of the endangered planets of the Ethnobotanical Historic Garden of the Cultural Santo Domingo Center. In 2003, he participated in the “Autocritica” workshop given by Magali Lara in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oaxaca.
Joe Strickland is an artist working in the photographic medium. He is a native of North Carolina and now lives in East Tennessee. A phenomenon he explores throughout much of his work is the palpable presence of humanity in empty spaces. Using his imagery to stimulate conversation and to further understanding, Strickland focuses on balance, depth, and dynamic movement through composition to engage the viewer. His photographs reflect current social issues with local and global implications.
Kavi Srinivasaragavan as a painter, believes that the highest level of sophistication and thought can be contained within a simple image. An image that may be very straight-forward but very obvious about something else. One that provokes thought beyond what is presented, and forces self reflection. In this manner, he strives to characterize the simple beauty in things, and the many answers they hold.
Magda Bowen was born in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1961. Her need to create and energy spills over to making jewelry, sewing, painting, designing and producing digital art. Although her subject matter varies, the choice of color always expresses her heritage. Day of the Dead is her favorite theme.
Toshiko Kitano Groner grew up in Aichi, Japan and now lives and works in New York City. After years of involvement with music, Groner started her new creative life as a visual artist in 2001. She earned a Certification of Fine Art Painting from The Art Students League of New York and has been exhibiting her works at various galleries in New York City and other locations. For the last 5 years, she has been working on abstraction in oil and mixed media. Lines and circles provide endless possibility and inspiration. She is very interested in the process of coordinating colors to find the balance she seeks for completion of a piece. She is always look for unique hues and tones of color from her native Japan, to create passion in her compositions.
Charlotte Jonasson Falk lives in Varberg on the Swedish west coast. To paint is joy, presence and new experiences. Her vision is to spread joy, awaken thoughts, feelings and creativity – and to simply create more color in life. The motives for her work are created from her expression – it always has something to say and what it is – lies in the eye of the viewer.
