Onishi Project is pleased to announce our second of a series of summer group shows for this year from June 14th to 27th with the opening reception on June 14th from 6 to 8pm. This group features five international artists: Taka Horii, Jessica Hargwood, Ji Min Hwang, Nancy Agati and artistic duo ‘Perez Reiter.’

Taka Horii was born in 1965, Nara, Japan. He graduated from Tama Art University, then learned about many types of paper while working at a sales agency dealing in fancy paper and Japanese paper products. In 2015, he started studying Japanese traditional paper and also began his career as an artist using modern art sumi (black ink) and washi Japanese paper. His artworks are made using a combination of these traditional materials and acrylic which has excellent durability.

Jessica Hargwood graduated with a BFA from The College of New Jersey in 2016. Growing up in an interracial family, Jessica chooses to continually explore questions of race and identity through the majority of her works, and draws inspiration from her diverse background. Primarily a painter, Jessica uses unconventional techniques while working with traditional painting materials to push the boundaries of what a painting can be.

Ji Min Hwang, born in 1995, is a Hong Kong-born, Seoul-raised, and Brooklyn-based artist. Her work consistently revisits past domestic experiences and particular moments in her life to explore the indescribable emotions and articulate the coexistence of happiness and sadness. She fuses the boundary between abstraction and representation to elaborate her theory in a more subtle way and intends to situate the viewers in unidentified spaces to trigger contemplation.

Nancy Agati’s work addresses transformations and patterns in nature through physical investigations of materials. Her multiple disciplinary work including works on paper, sculpture, textiles, site-specific installation and public art. Agati holds a BFA from Alfred University, School of Art & Design, NY and an MFA from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Her time spent in Southern Italy initiated several bodies of work that relate to traditional lace patterning and architectural geometry including Balaustra I & II. As a recent Hemera Foundation -Tending Space Fellow, Agati has been investigating the intersection of meditation as it relates to her art making process.

Perez Reiter, the artistic duo born in Colombia in 1976, Irmgard Reiter and Diego Perez Espitia work together as a collaborative creative team. Based in Colombia and Austria, they write algorithms and use digital fabrication and printing techniques to create drawings, objects and spaces. With a background in architecture, their visual work initially emerged as conceptual studies for their designs. A few years ago, it became an established line of work within the studio.
